An Apostolic Manifesto

It
is my hope that you will find in this work a starting point for
research. When I stopped studying the
Bible in order to support what I
believed, and started studying it in
order to learn what to believe,
I realized how wrong I was.
The
modern Oneness movement began at a Pentecostal camp meeting in April
1913 with one man's "revelation" that baptism "in the
name of Jesus Christ" (Acts 2:38) was the correct fulfillment of
Jesus' command to baptize "in the name of the Father, and of the
Son, and of the Holy Ghost" (Matthew 28:19). It is this basic
misunderstanding that led certain others to conclude that Jesus
Christ is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Oneness adherents believe in the full deity of Jesus Christ.
To a Oneness
Pentecostal, this is a defining issue. They believe that the
Trinitarian view of the Godhead is a pagan invention of the early
church councils of 325 and 381 AD. Because the majority of Christian
churches hold to this view of the Godhead, they feel that all
Trinitarian churches are paganized, pantheistic descendants of the
Roman Catholic (Universal) Church.
The
Roman Catholic Churches are pagan, their doctrines and leadership are
despised by Oneness Pentecostals, they're considered “the Whore of
Babylon” the essence of the meaning to “Come out of her my
people” (Come out of the Pagan Worship of the Holy Roman Catholic
Church) yet Oneness Pentecostalism has blindly adopted virtually
every pagan doctrine associated with their Mother Church.
Early
Christianity in it's most primitive form was still a monotheistic
Jewish sect. It wasn't until the fourth century when Christendom
adopted the creeds and doctrines agreed upon at the Counsel of Nicaea
325CE. The belief in a human deity, a man-god, be it a part of a
trinity or Jesus himself as god in the flesh is totally pagan and
contrary to the Law of Moses. (the Torah)
Nowhere
does scripture claim the New Testament is “the word of God” or the
Law of God. The New Testament is the doctrinal playbook of the Roman
Catholic Church and all its sister denominations. Gods words, Gods
instruction manual to man is found in the TaNaCH. Like the Book of
Mormon the New Testament is extra-Biblical text added to the Hebrew
scriptures by men. The New Testament is man-made doctrines that
contradict the Law of Moses. The doctrine of original sin, the
doctrine of Hell and a torturing vengeful god are all man-made
creations of the Roman Church.
The
Torah was given to teach us how to conduct our lives properly and
wisely as souls, rather than bodies. When it comes to our bodies, we
are able to discover all the phenomena that pertain to physical well
being through experimentation and experience.
Most people know
an enormous amount about the things that affect their bodies without
having to glean this information from books or learn it in school.
The knowledge of our bodies feels like a natural part of our
consciousness.
The Supreme Designer,
who is aware of our limitations, and knows that we cannot possibly
learn the ways of the soul through our earthly experience, was forced
to inform us about our souls in a book. He was forced to give us the
Torah to instruct us how to behave as spiritual beings.
According
to Christian teachings, Jesus was born of a virgin. Although this
assertion in the New Testament provides an important record of pagan
influences on first century of Christianity, it also deals a
devastating blow to the Church's claim that Jesus is the messiah from
the lineage of King David.
By
insisting that Jesus was born of a virgin, Christendom therefore
concedes that Jesus lacked the human Jewish father necessary to trace
his lineage back to King David and the tribe of Judah. This
patrilineal connection to the Davidic dynasty is vital for any
claimant to the throne of David, because the lineage of the mother is
irrelevant in this regard. The Torah clearly states that tribal
affiliation is traced exclusively through the father
.
They
assembled the entire congregation together on the first day of the
second month, and they declared their pedigrees after their families,
by the house of theirfathers..."
(Numbers
1:18)
Moreover,
the author of the Book of Hebrews' strange assertion that Jesus was
also a high priest further weakens the Church's claim that Jesus is
eligible to rule as a Davidic king. For example, the author the
Epistle to the Hebrews writes:
Therefore,
holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts
on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.
(Hebrews
3:1)
Seeing
then that we have a great high priest who has passed through the
heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
(Hebrews
4:14)
This
stunning assertion that Jesus was high priest further undermines the
Church's claim that Jesus was a Davidic king. Simply put, the same
man can never be both high priest and king. The high priest must be a
descendant of Aaron (the brother of Moses), who was a descendant from
the tribe of Levi. A Davidic king, on the other hand, has to trace
his lineage from the House of David, descended from the tribe of
Judah. It is impossible for the same person to be both a member of
the tribe of Levi and Judah.
It
isn't difficult to understand why the Book of Hebrews repeatedly
insists that Jesus served as high priest – the notion that Jesus
provided the ultimate sin sacrifice for the human race was vital to
the core theology of this Pauline author. This astonishing claim,
however, completely sabotages the missionary contention that Jesus
was eligible to sit on David's throne.
There
is no mystery as to how Christianity inflicted this theological wound
upon itself. During the first century, the Church had endured a rapid
theological transition. In its earliest years, the founders of
Christianity sought Jews to join their young movement. As the first
century began to draw to a close, however, Christendom recognized
that the Jewish people were by and large unimpressed with their
message.
The zealous effort to convert the Jew en mass failed. The
Church understood that if Christianity was going to flourish, they
needed to attract converts from heathen communities that dotted the
Fertile Crescent. Although the Church's swift adaptation at this
crucial juncture was highly successful, it would have devastating
consequences for the theological complexion of this once-Jewish
heresy.
Quite
rapidly and with great ease, Christendom adopted pagan teachings and
ideas that were widely familiar to the citizens of the Roman Empire.
Virtually all of the god-men and divine saviors of Persia, the Far
East, North Africa, and Rome were born to a virgin mother. As
a result, the notion that Jesus was also born of a virgin quickly
became well ensconced and widely accepted in the teachings of the
young Christian Church.
Christianity
would eventually import many other notable pagan beliefs into its
teachings. Yet many of these creeds, such as the doctrine of the
Trinity, would take a few more centuries and numerous political
struggles until they were firmly a part of Church orthodoxy. The
belief that Jesus was born of a virgin, on the other hand, was
adopted by the Church so early that the New Testament was still being
fashioned when it was embraced by first century Christians.
Christendom
paid no small price for becoming the repository of pagan lore. The
consequences for adopting the doctrine of the virgin birth created a
theological disaster from which the Church has never recovered, and
rendered every royal and priestly claim it has made for Jesus

The
Oneness doctrine is legalistic to the core, beginning with a
works-based teaching of salvation. A person must first repent, then
be baptized correctly, then give evidence of baptism of the Holy
Spirit by speaking in "tongues." These steps are necessary
to even be considered a true Christian.
Upon finally becoming "truly"
born again, the new convert to Oneness Pentecostalism is quickly
instructed in the "standards of holiness". Such "standards"
are usually taught under the banner of "separation" from
the sinful ways of modern society.The problem in such churches is that these "standards" are taught as black-and-white, biblical issues of morality. In other words, to compromise these standards is akin to committing a clear moral sin, like stealing or murder.
In the case that a "standard" is not clearly biblical (like wearing wedding rings, for example), they must still be followed if the local pastor expects it. This kind of authoritarianism is similar to the Catholic view that if the Bible isn't clear, you should just do what the spiritual authority says.
The
problem with these "standards" is that none of them are
internal issues of true holiness; they are all in the area of
external appearance. Oneness Pentecostals are constantly taught to
appear holy and separated from the world.
When external issues are emphasized, it may well be because the true
internal holiness is lacking. The Pharisees were classic examples of
this problem, and Jesus was in clear opposition to the practice of
"external holiness" (Matthew 23:25-28).
In
short, Oneness Pentecostalism begins and ends with a constant
obstacle course of rules. Those who can't keep up this game of
appearances will often drop out of the movement, bringing accusations
of "backsliding" from those in the church.
After
a person has experienced his "new birth," they're not quite
yet "out of the woods." It is also expected that UPC
members consistently comply with several "holiness standards,"
including, but not limited to, the following:
- Women should wear skirts, but never pants or slacks.
- Women should never cut their hair.
- Women should not wear jewelry or makeup.
- Men should only have short, conservative haircuts.
- Men should not wear facial hair.
- No one should own a TV.
- No one should watch movies at a theater.
- No one should wear shorts, or anything that would expose the legs.
- No one should go swimming in a public place.
These
"standards" vary a little bit from church to church, but
most are consistently taught within the UPC (some of the more
"liberal" Oneness churches do not teach these kinds of
"standards.")
At
the height of my UPC experience, I was fully convinced of the whole
Oneness doctrine. I was excited about it; I believed it, I taught it,
debated it with Trinitarians, told it to friends, even helped
bring a few other people into the movement and organized a street ministry.
Hyper-experientialism
Once a person gets "supernatural" results from this "seeking" procedure, he or she will notice that when they continue this process, they can re-live that original ecstatic "rush" of "finding God." Believing that these mystical experiences are the equivalent of getting in "the presence of God," such a person begins on a long journey of seeking "more" of God through "deeper" experiences.
These "deeper" experiences may be practiced at church, at home, or anywhere that's convenient. As this practice is perfected, such a person may have some very bizarre things happen to them. In their mind, they may "see visions," "hear God," "receive a prophecy," etc. On the outside, they may have physical reactions such as being "slain in the Spirit," laughing, crying, weeping, shouting, convulsing, etc.
These type ofhyper-experientialism is not encouraged or taught anywhere in the Bible, but it has been practiced for centuries in primitive occult religions. Unfortunately, they are also practiced regularly in many Pentecostal (both Oneness and Trinitarian) and Charismatic churches.
Other
religious groups have been observed to practice some form of speaking
in tongues - theopneustic
glossolalia. It
is perhaps most commonly in Paganism, Shamanism,
and other mediumistic
religious
practices.] In
Japan, the God Light Association used to practice glossolalia to
cause adherents to recall past lives.
Certain Gnostic magical
texts from the Roman period have written on them unintelligible
syllables such as "t t t t n n n n d d d d d..." etc. It is
conjectured that these may be transliterations of the sorts of sounds
made during glossolalia. The Coptic
Gospel of the Egyptians also
features a hymn of (mostly) unintelligible syllables which is thought
to be an early example of Christian glossolalia.
In
the 19th century, Spiritism was
developed by the work of Allan
Kardec,
and the phenomenon was seen as one of the self-evident manifestations
of spirits. Spiritists argued that some cases were actually cases
of xenoglossia.
Glossolalia
has also been observed in the Voodoo religion
of Haiti,
as
well as in the Hindu Gurus and Fakirs of
India.
Speaking in Tongues a Learned behavior
The
material explanation arrived at by a number of studies is that
glossolalia is "learned behavior".
What
is taught is the ability to produce language-like speech. This is
only a partial explanation, but it is a part that has withstood much
testing. It is possible to train novices to produce glossolalic
speech. One experiment with 60 undergraduates found that 20%
succeeded after merely listening to a 60-second sample, and 70%
succeeded after training:
Our findings that glossolalia can be easily learned through direct instruction, along with demonstrations that tongue speakers can initiate and terminate glossolalia upon request and can exhibit glossolalia in the absence of any indexes of trance[…] support the hypothesis that glossolalia utterances are goal-directed actions rather than involuntary happenings.
The
admittedly fraudulent preacher Marjoe
Gortner described
in a 1977 interview how people learn glossolalia in a highly
emotional religious setting.
"Tongues is something you learn," he emphasized. "It is a releasing that you teach yourself. You are told by your peers, the church, and the Bible – if you accept it literally – that the Holy Ghost speaks in another tongue; you become convinced that it is the ultimate expression of the spirit flowing through you. The first time maybe you'll just go dut-dut-dut-dut, and that's about all that will get out. Then you'll hear other people and next night you may go dut-dut-dut-UM-dut-DEET-dut-dut, and it gets a little better. The next thing you know, it's ela-hando-satelay-eek-condele-mosandrey-aseya ... and it's a new language you've got down."
That
glossolalia can be learned is also seen in the traces left behind by
teachers. An investigation by the Lutheran
Medical Center in
Brooklyn showed that the influence of a particular leader can shape a
group's glossolalia: where certain prominent glossolalists had
visited, whole groups of glossolalists would speak in his style of
speech.
Kavan
found that most New Zealand Pentecostals and Charismatics did not
experience trance except during the baptism of the spirit. However,
meditators in a yoga-based purification group experienced frequent
intense trances, of which glossolalia was an occasional
manifestation. Kavan suggested that there are two types of
glossolalia – spontaneous and context-dependent – and the former
is more likely to occur in groups that are radical, experiential and
charismatically led.
Spiritual
elitism
Oneness
Pentecostals see themselves as the only ones who teach the "full
truth of God." Other Christians, who may have been truly
transformed by the Spirit of God, and love and serve the God of the
Bible, are seen as "on the way" to the full truth, but not
quite there.
One
who believes the gospel according to Oneness Pentecostalism has no
choice but to see themselves as more right, more holy, and more
spiritual than everyone else. That is pure elitism; after all, they
are the "only church" who preaches the "Apostolic
doctrine" of "the first church."
The
reason I know this is that I used to believe this myself; I
fellowshipped exclusively with other "Apostolics" for long
enough to know that they really do believe that they are the only
ones who really "live by the Bible."
It
was only when I admitted that I could be wrong that my elitist
mentality began to break. When I stopped studying the Bible in
order to support what I believed,
and started studying it in
order to
learn what to believe,
I realized how wrong I was.
Blood
Guilt Cult of Death
I
am here simply to expose the lies, injustices, hypocrisies and blood
guilt I perceive in the Unholy United Pentecostal International
organization and much of Orthodox Christianity.

What
is a “false prophet”? Is it someone who makes up a story out of
his hat but never had any experience to back up that story? Or is it
perhaps someone who had a profound experience but the experience is
actually misleading?
There is no question that some false
prophets simply concocted “visions” out of thin air but the Bible
also teaches us about another type of “false prophet”.
In the First Book of Kings chapter
22 we are introduced to Zedekiah son of Chenaanah. This Zedekiah
prophesied to King Ahab but his prophecy was false. Michaiah, who was
a true prophet of God, described how Zedekiah had been misled.
Michaiah describes God’s heavenly court sitting in judgment over
Ahab. The court seeks to destroy Ahab and a medium is sought to
accomplish this goal. A spirit is sent forth to persuade Ahab to go
to battle where he will meet his fate. This spirit sent from on high
was a real experience that Zedekiah and the other false prophets
truly felt. But it was sent to mislead and to confuse.
It is clear that the fact that
someone undergoes an “experience” does not prove anything. When
Moses teaches us about the miracles of the false prophet he describes
them as a test from God (Deuteronomy 13:4). Moses doesn’t tell us
that the false prophet cannot perform miracles, signs and wonders.
Instead Moses tells us that we need to measure those experiences, we
need to evaluate those miracles and use our sense of discernment to
understand if the miracles and the experiences are tests from God or
if they are true prophecy.
The yardstick that God granted our
nation so that we can evaluate these supernatural experiences is the
testimony of our nation. Is the experience leading us in the path
that God set us on when he took us out of Egypt or are these miracles
introducing a “new” and “better” path?
Throughout history many people have
attempted to market their “new paths” by claiming to be
the real and rediscovered “old path”. But the path that God set
us on travels through the hearts of His witness nation. And the only
way that these people can claim our path for themselves is by
dismissing our testimony.
As the nation chosen by God we have
the responsibility toward ourselves and towards the world to remain
loyal to the testimony with which we were entrusted. And the prophet
Isaiah prophesied that the purpose of the Lord will indeed be
fulfilled through our people. With our hearts on fire for God we will
yet illuminate the world (Isaiah 60:3).
JEWELRY
Refuttation of the UPCI Teaching on Jewelry by Ricky Guthrie
According to the UPCI the Bible frequently associates jewelry with a proud attitude, an immoral lifestyle, or pagan worship. They take this stand based on the story of Jacob and the story of the golden calf. This is one of the reasons they say the wearing of jewelry is sinful.
In Genesis we find that Abraham sent his servant, Eliezer, to find his son Isaac a wife. Abraham sent him to some of his kinfolk. Eliezer met a young girl named Rebecca. When she told him whose family she was with, he gave her a gold nose ring and two gold bracelets. Later on we read where he gave her more jewelry, etc.
We all know that Abraham was called the friend of God. It is obvious that he did not think the wearing of jewelry was sinful or he would not have sent Eliezer with jewelry for the young future bride of his son, Isaac.
We also know that Rebecca was the mother of Jacob. The same Jacob the UPCI claims did away with the wearing of jewelry.
Jacob left his home because he took his brother's birthright and went to his mother's brother's home. Here he married two sisters, Leah and Rachel. We have to understand that Laban did not worship Jehovah but worshipped household gods as we find in Genesis when Rachel stole her dad's household gods.
It was in worship of these gods that the women wore certain types of jewelry. They wore amulets and charms also to ward off evil spirits. Jacob, who served Jehovah, knew in God's sight these article of jewelry were wicked so he had them buried. This in no way tells us that the wearing of jewelry is sinful. The wearing of jewelry worn to ward off demonic spirits or worn in worship to false gods is wrong.
1 Peter 3:3, 5 – “Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel...For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:”
Above, Peter instructs women to adorn themselves as the holy women of the ‘old time’ did, right? How about Rebecca? She was unquestionably a holy woman of the old time. Was she not one of the most prominent female figures of the Old Testament? Of course. So then, let’s look at some passages about Rebecca:
Genesis 24:47, 53 – “And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said, The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bare unto him: and I put the earring upon her face, and the bracelets upon her hands….And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment, and gave them to Rebecca: he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things. "(KJV)
What? One of the women of old wore jewelry? Is the Bible contradicting itself? I hardly think so. So then Peter is not forbidding jewelry outright, he is forbidding excessive use of it and telling us not to let our outward appearance be what we are known by, but instead to be known by our meek and humble spirit.
In the passage below, God himself is putting jewelry on His people and referring to Israel’s beauty as ‘perfect through my comeliness.’ In fact, this passage even seems to suggest that God was glorified to the heathen as a result of Israel’s beauty
.
Ezekiel 16:9-14 – “Then washed I thee with water; yea, I thoroughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil. I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with badgers' skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I covered thee with silk. I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck. And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head. Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom. And thy renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfect through my comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD.” (KJV) .
Later on when Joseph, Jacob's son, was sold into slavery and became the second man in command in Egypt, we read where Pharaoh put a ring on his finger and a gold chain around his neck. We know that Joseph did not commit adultery with Potiphar's wife for it was considered sin. If Jacob his father considered the wearing of jewelry sin, why did Joseph accept these articles of jewelry from Pharaoh? The reason is clear as a bell. His father did not think the wearing of all jewelry as sinful.
If Jacob had taken this stand, then he would have stood against his Grandfather and his own mother. We know his Grandfather gave his servant jewelry to give to Rebekah and she wore it.
When God spoke to Moses out of the burning bush, he told Moses to have the Israelites borrow jewelry from the Egyptians and for them to wear it. In his omniscience, God knew the Israelites would take this jewelry and wear it and later would take the jewelry and have Aaron melt it down and the golden calf would be formed and they would worship this calf as their god. Did this stop God from telling Moses to borrow the jewelry? NO!
Even though, after they had committed this grave sin, God did tell them to remove their jewelry it was not permanent.
We know that King Saul wore gold bracelets for this was told to us at the time of his death and again at the time when David composed his most famous song about Saul and Jonathan, he spoke of Saul who adorned the people with jewelry.
The Song of Solomon tells us that King Solomon wore gold chains. Also Daniel was given a gold chain by the King of Babylon.
We also read in the Book of Jeremiah where God said "Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number." (Jeremiah 2:32.) Also in the Isaiah 61, God spoke of a bridegroom wearing his ornaments.
The UPCI speaks of the time that God accused Israel of committing adultery against him in the same book of Isaiah as other proof that the wearing of jewelry is sin. Here in Isaiah 3 we read where God spoke of Israel as if she were a literal woman committing harlotry against him.
He speaks of all the jewelry she was wearing and said he would take away all of it from Israel. God also spoke of head-bands, cloaks, undergarments, bonnets, scarves, mantles, hoods, and veils. All this he was going to take away from Israel. Yet when you read UPCI's stand on outward adornment and jewelry they say it is sin to wear jewelry but okay to wear headbands, undergarments, veils, scarves, etc. Doesn't make sense does it?
When we turn over to Ezekiel the 16th chapter, when God again likened Israel to a real woman, he said he had clothed her in fine clothing and put rings on her fingers and rings in her ears and in her nose, and bracelets and gold chains and a gold crown.
This was Jehovah who said he had adorned Israel this way, and even though later in the same chapter we read where this same Israel used this jewelry to attract other lovers, God still said he would adorn her with all this jewelry
.
If throughout the Old Testament we find that God told Israel to wear jewelry, why does UPCI teach something blatantly different?
Both Peter and Paul wrote that women should not put so much emphasis on outward appearance, so they both mentioned the wearing of gold or pearls. If you read their writings in the original language, you come to the understanding that they were not forbidding jewelry from being worn but were saying things such as a meek and mild spirit etc. was better adornment. They both were speaking of moderation. If we took what Peter said in the light of how the UPCI interprets what he said in I Peter the third chapter, we would come to the conclusion that Peter was telling the women not to wear clothing.
UPCI tends to have this attitude that if something has ever been used for evil then it becomes strictly evil. People have used jewelry for sexual purposes or for prideful purposes so they say it is a sin to wear it. If God felt that way about everything that has been used to sin with, he would have destroyed the world a long time ago.
One good example of this is the act of sex. It is one of the greatest sins committed daily in life (adultery and rape etc.) but God has not forbidden the use of this act in marriage just because mankind has used the act to sin with.
The wearing of jewelry is not sinful, neither for men nor for women. Also, for those who take a stand against this trend of men wearing earrings or women wearing nose rings, the people of Israel wore both.

THE revelation of Avraham was and is that there is only One God. He is Eternal and Indivisible. Deifying a human being and/or believing in a trinity violates this central realization.
Refuttation of the UPCI Teaching on Jewelry by Ricky Guthrie
According to the UPCI the Bible frequently associates jewelry with a proud attitude, an immoral lifestyle, or pagan worship. They take this stand based on the story of Jacob and the story of the golden calf. This is one of the reasons they say the wearing of jewelry is sinful.
In Genesis we find that Abraham sent his servant, Eliezer, to find his son Isaac a wife. Abraham sent him to some of his kinfolk. Eliezer met a young girl named Rebecca. When she told him whose family she was with, he gave her a gold nose ring and two gold bracelets. Later on we read where he gave her more jewelry, etc.
We all know that Abraham was called the friend of God. It is obvious that he did not think the wearing of jewelry was sinful or he would not have sent Eliezer with jewelry for the young future bride of his son, Isaac.
We also know that Rebecca was the mother of Jacob. The same Jacob the UPCI claims did away with the wearing of jewelry.
Jacob left his home because he took his brother's birthright and went to his mother's brother's home. Here he married two sisters, Leah and Rachel. We have to understand that Laban did not worship Jehovah but worshipped household gods as we find in Genesis when Rachel stole her dad's household gods.
It was in worship of these gods that the women wore certain types of jewelry. They wore amulets and charms also to ward off evil spirits. Jacob, who served Jehovah, knew in God's sight these article of jewelry were wicked so he had them buried. This in no way tells us that the wearing of jewelry is sinful. The wearing of jewelry worn to ward off demonic spirits or worn in worship to false gods is wrong.
1 Peter 3:3, 5 – “Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel...For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:”
Above, Peter instructs women to adorn themselves as the holy women of the ‘old time’ did, right? How about Rebecca? She was unquestionably a holy woman of the old time. Was she not one of the most prominent female figures of the Old Testament? Of course. So then, let’s look at some passages about Rebecca:
Genesis 24:47, 53 – “And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said, The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bare unto him: and I put the earring upon her face, and the bracelets upon her hands….And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment, and gave them to Rebecca: he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things. "(KJV)
What? One of the women of old wore jewelry? Is the Bible contradicting itself? I hardly think so. So then Peter is not forbidding jewelry outright, he is forbidding excessive use of it and telling us not to let our outward appearance be what we are known by, but instead to be known by our meek and humble spirit.
In the passage below, God himself is putting jewelry on His people and referring to Israel’s beauty as ‘perfect through my comeliness.’ In fact, this passage even seems to suggest that God was glorified to the heathen as a result of Israel’s beauty
.
Ezekiel 16:9-14 – “Then washed I thee with water; yea, I thoroughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil. I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with badgers' skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I covered thee with silk. I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck. And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head. Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom. And thy renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfect through my comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD.” (KJV) .
Later on when Joseph, Jacob's son, was sold into slavery and became the second man in command in Egypt, we read where Pharaoh put a ring on his finger and a gold chain around his neck. We know that Joseph did not commit adultery with Potiphar's wife for it was considered sin. If Jacob his father considered the wearing of jewelry sin, why did Joseph accept these articles of jewelry from Pharaoh? The reason is clear as a bell. His father did not think the wearing of all jewelry as sinful.
If Jacob had taken this stand, then he would have stood against his Grandfather and his own mother. We know his Grandfather gave his servant jewelry to give to Rebekah and she wore it.
When God spoke to Moses out of the burning bush, he told Moses to have the Israelites borrow jewelry from the Egyptians and for them to wear it. In his omniscience, God knew the Israelites would take this jewelry and wear it and later would take the jewelry and have Aaron melt it down and the golden calf would be formed and they would worship this calf as their god. Did this stop God from telling Moses to borrow the jewelry? NO!
Even though, after they had committed this grave sin, God did tell them to remove their jewelry it was not permanent.
We know that King Saul wore gold bracelets for this was told to us at the time of his death and again at the time when David composed his most famous song about Saul and Jonathan, he spoke of Saul who adorned the people with jewelry.
The Song of Solomon tells us that King Solomon wore gold chains. Also Daniel was given a gold chain by the King of Babylon.
We also read in the Book of Jeremiah where God said "Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number." (Jeremiah 2:32.) Also in the Isaiah 61, God spoke of a bridegroom wearing his ornaments.
The UPCI speaks of the time that God accused Israel of committing adultery against him in the same book of Isaiah as other proof that the wearing of jewelry is sin. Here in Isaiah 3 we read where God spoke of Israel as if she were a literal woman committing harlotry against him.
He speaks of all the jewelry she was wearing and said he would take away all of it from Israel. God also spoke of head-bands, cloaks, undergarments, bonnets, scarves, mantles, hoods, and veils. All this he was going to take away from Israel. Yet when you read UPCI's stand on outward adornment and jewelry they say it is sin to wear jewelry but okay to wear headbands, undergarments, veils, scarves, etc. Doesn't make sense does it?
When we turn over to Ezekiel the 16th chapter, when God again likened Israel to a real woman, he said he had clothed her in fine clothing and put rings on her fingers and rings in her ears and in her nose, and bracelets and gold chains and a gold crown.
This was Jehovah who said he had adorned Israel this way, and even though later in the same chapter we read where this same Israel used this jewelry to attract other lovers, God still said he would adorn her with all this jewelry
.
If throughout the Old Testament we find that God told Israel to wear jewelry, why does UPCI teach something blatantly different?
Both Peter and Paul wrote that women should not put so much emphasis on outward appearance, so they both mentioned the wearing of gold or pearls. If you read their writings in the original language, you come to the understanding that they were not forbidding jewelry from being worn but were saying things such as a meek and mild spirit etc. was better adornment. They both were speaking of moderation. If we took what Peter said in the light of how the UPCI interprets what he said in I Peter the third chapter, we would come to the conclusion that Peter was telling the women not to wear clothing.
UPCI tends to have this attitude that if something has ever been used for evil then it becomes strictly evil. People have used jewelry for sexual purposes or for prideful purposes so they say it is a sin to wear it. If God felt that way about everything that has been used to sin with, he would have destroyed the world a long time ago.
One good example of this is the act of sex. It is one of the greatest sins committed daily in life (adultery and rape etc.) but God has not forbidden the use of this act in marriage just because mankind has used the act to sin with.

According to the Talmud Avraham's own father produced idols of the gods for worship. But HaShem revealed to the patriarch of our people that the singularly important truth is that God is echad. The Eternal is indivisibly One (echad). The Nicene trinity doctrine and the doctrine of the deity of Jesus created in the 3rd and 4th centuries CE by a group of non-Jewish Roman bishops denies this fundamental revelation of God, His Oneness is the foundational declaration of biblical and Jewish religion.
No one who accepts this teaching can accurately be considered religiously Jewish nor biblically based. This dogma rejects the very core of Avraham's revelation, the Bible, and our holy traditions.
